Bob Hairstyles from Classic to Contemporary

The bob hairstyle has been around since the middle of the 20th century, and it’s not going away. Its popularity lies in its simplicity, and the fact that a well-cut bob will look good on almost any woman, regardless of her age or facial structure.

Here are few of the bob hairstyle variations currently in favor:

The Classic Bob

The classic bob is the only popular bob variation which has bangs, with the length of the bangs being anywhere from extremely short to eyebrow-length. The rest of the hair is usually cut to the chin line. It’s a great look for women with straight hair because it is so simple to style.

The Long Bang Bob

The long bang bob can be cut anywhere from just to the ear to below the chin, and while it may appear to have no bangs, the bangs are actually extremely long and brushed to the sides of the head. The long bang bob may or may not be cut with slight layers, and like the classic bob is also very popular among women with straight hair.

The Side Sweep Bob

Currently one of the most popular of all bobs, the side sweep bob is ideal for women who either have straight hair or can blow dry their hair to straighten it. While this bob normally has hair cut to the same length, it will sometime have hair longer in the front than in the back, and if it is layered at all, the layers will be long. The side sweep bob has no bangs.

The hair will be parted on the side and either curled or blown so that it turns under slightly. It is never curled outward, and even the curling under is barely noticeable. When the side sweep bob is cut properly, it will usually curl under by itself.

This style works on both young and older women, because older women with thinner hair can brush it back to add fullness, and curl it under more dramatically. Younger women, on the other hand, can add more layers to their side sweep bobs for a more tousled look.

The Bob Flip

While the flip hairstyle is becoming less and less popular, the bob flip is still around and has very lightly flipped ends which are achieved with a curl brush. This look is far less artificial than the flipped and sprayed ends of the flip hairstyles popular in the 1960s.

A bob flip has a few long layers of straight hair with a middle part, with just enough flip to give the style some depth. The look is better on young women than old.
