So you want to become a hairdresser? But how to get started. If you are a potential hairstylist you should be aware of some things. Cutting hair can be an art form, and every artist needs a nice clean canvas. Well, no doubt about that, when the hair you are about to cut is dirty or greasy, wash it first. You should note that it is much easier to cut wet hair. To remove any tangles and knots, comb through the hair thoroughly. Always have a spray bottle near you; this is helpful when hair becomes dry while cutting. So how to cut hair?
The most important assets of a hair dresser are his or her tools.
You may find real cheap scissors at the drug store, but you should be aware that cheap scissors dull a lot easier and dull scissors will result in a dull cut. It is important to never use the scissors for anything besides cutting hair which can wear down the edge. You do not want to cause an infection; this is why you should sterilize all tools that get in contact with hair or skin.
Now divide the hair off using clips; to get an idea, eight sections with four sections on the top layer and four layers on the bottom will work best. It is advised to only cut a little at a time and this rule is true for every hairstyle cut. You should keep in mind that you can always cut off more later; but there is no way to do anything if it’s cut to short. Now grab a piece of the freed section, it should be about one inch thick, and comb it. Grab the section between your index and middle finger – it should be around about 1/4 inch from the end – before releasing the comb. When you are done with this piece of the section, release it. Use the cut pieces as a reference and cut the rest of the combed section.
Continue doing this until all hair has the same length. To start a new section, release a new section adjacent to an already cut section and use the cut hair as a reference. Repeat this for the rest of the sections of hair until the whole head is even and that is how to cut hair well.
